Year 4 2024 - 2025
Welcome to the Year 4 class page!
Below is an outline of what Year 4 will be covering this Autumn half term:
Mathematics – We will be learning about area and multiplication and division. We apply our times tables knowledge in different contexts!
Literacy – We are focusing on non-fiction writing. Our first piece is an informal letter from the perspective of a British soldier during the war, while our second piece is a persuasive leaflet.
R.E. – Our big question is "What's so special about gifts?" We will be thinking deeply about the meaning of Christmas, Jesus as our Saviour, and how we can use our God-given gifts to bless others.
Science – We are learning about the states of matter and how to plan, conduct, and evaluate fair-test investigations.
DT – We will be planning, drafting, making, and evaluating a Colosseum mosaic using crystal tiles and glass stones. We are learning about the role of mosaics in Ancient Rome and how it helps us in present learn about the past.
Geography - Our theme for this Autumn term is 'The World's Kitchen'. We are now learning about food distribution, food inequality, fair trade, and the how different food in different climates grow. We also conducted a local study on the Central Manchester foodbank with the help of one of the members of staff who came to visit our classroom!
Computing – We will be using computers to code repetitions and loops in scratch. We used this to create our own crystal flowers blooming from different 2D shapes!
PSHE – We are thinking deeply about what it means to respec each other in different settings and contexts.
P.E. – We are looking at tackling and handling through a field game.
Homework
Children will be given homework every Friday to be completed for the following Wednesday. If your child is unable to complete their homework at home, they can complete it in school during lunchtimes. Their homework will consist of the following each week: a reading comprehension exercise, a maths exercise, spellings, and their reading book (to be signed daily). They will also be given homework to complete online on TTRS and Rockerbox.
P.E. and Swimming kits
Children will need their P.E. kits every Tuesday. The children need to come into school wearing their P.E. kits on these days – a plain white t-shirt and black or blue shorts – so they may wear shorts underneath their tracksuit bottoms on these days. The children must also make sure on these days they do not have any jewellery on (e.g. earrings, necklaces, watches) as these must be removed before a P.E. lesson.
They will also need their swimming kits every Friday. This includes: a tight-fitting swimsuit (trunks for boys and one-piece for girls; no bikinis or loose clothing), a towel, and a swimming cap if their hair exceeds their eyebrows. They will not need goggles or floats as all equipment will be provided by the swimming centre.
Thank you
