Welcome to the Year 2 class page!

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the Summer term in Year 2.

Here is an outline of the work we will be covering in the first half term.

Mathematics – Fractions, time, statistics, position and direction.

Literacy – We will be linking our writing to our topic. We will be creating fact files, writing instructions, story writing and creating our own poems.

RE – Our RE themes will include, Pentecost, May is the Month on Mary, Reconciliation, the Universal Church and St Anne. We will aslo follow the Liturgical calendar to celebrate special events and Saints.

Topic – Our topic will be 'Pioneers'. We will be learning about some pioneers starting with Neil Armstrong and the moon landing, we will then find out about other pioneers who have had an impact on our lives today.

Homework

The homework will be set each week each Friday to be completed by the following Wednesday. There will be a weekly spelling and times tables test every Thursday.

Maths -This will focus on the maths topic we have been covering this week. A paper copy of this will be sent home.

Spellings – Paper copies will be sent home each Friday, with a test the following Friday.

Literacy – The children will either bring home a reading comprehension or a worksheet based on their grammar and punctuation from that wee.

Reading Books

We will send home weekly reading books. The children have a specific reading day on which they are to bring their reading book in. The expectation is that children in Year 2 should read at home every day. A record of this can be kept in the children’s reading record. We are aiming to foster a love of reading in the children.

Please, whenever possible, read to your children. They will absolutely love this.

P.E. kits

Children will need to arrive at school in their P.E. kits for their lessons. They MUST have the correct P.E. kit for outdoor games – a plain white t-shirt, black or blue shorts (or plain tracksuit bottoms and top when it gets colder). P.E. is on Wednesday and Friday every week.
