Reading is really important in Year 5 and something that we take great pleasure in. We know that reading benefits us in so many ways and can take us to places beyond our wildest imagination. Year 5 are blogging their reading journeys here: Year 5 have read: (

We have been working on journals of bursts of short writes based on our class story, When the Mountains Roared. The children’s journals are absolutely beautiful!

Poetry week – 22nd March 2021

We have spent the week learning the poem I am a Minotaur ready to perform at the end of the week. This is linked to our Ancient Greece unit. Our video link is below. We hope you enjoy it!

World Book Day 2021

In whole class reading, we thought about the Big Debate question: Are picture books only for toddlers?

We then spent the morning sharing some of out favourite picture books together and decided that picture books are perfect for any age!

We also designed our own World Book Day T-Shirts based on some of our favourite books!

We received a letter from our author of the term, Jenny McLachlan today! We are so excited!

Lee read Pizazz by Sophy Henn and wrote a lovely review. The author was kind enough to send him a letter and his own copy as well as book marks for the rest of the class. He is excited for book number 2.

Millie was the first person to complete her Mission Believathon by finishing her first book in one night! She has also completed her first book review too. Well done Millie.

We have had a go at learning some poetry off by heart today! Linking to our theme of magic, we read Joshua Seigal’s Magic from his poetry book “I Don’t Like Poetry”. The children loved it and had a really good go at performing it! The link is below:
