Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope this letter finds you well after the Christmas break. Below is an outline of what Year 2 will be covering this half term:

Mathematics – Year 2 will work on developing the children’s understanding of multiplication and division. We will be exploring and learning how to use statistics and expanding the children’s knowledge and application of the properties of shape.

Literacy – We will be reading the children’s classic Dogger about a boy who loses his favourite toy and writing our own narrative based on the story.

RE – We will look at the values of respect and love through our learning of the local church and the importance of Bible in our religion.

Topic – In our Geography unit ‘What a Wonderful World’ we will be exploring the continents and how these differ to where we live.

Science – Our learning in science will focus on ‘Living Things and their Habitats’.

Homework

Children will be given homework every Friday to be completed and in school by the following Thursday. If your child is unable to complete their homework at home, they can complete it at Homework Club with Mr Hoskin each Thursday lunchtime.

Reading Books

Please ensure your child is bringing in their reading book and reading diary to school daily. If they are reading at home please record this in their diary.

P.E. kits

For this half term I would suggest the children leaving their PE kit in school each week. Children will need their P.E. kits every Tuesday and most Wednesdays. They MUST have the correct P.E. kit for outdoor games – a plain white t-shirt, black or blue shorts (or plain tracksuit bottoms and top when it gets colder).

We also have Manchester United coaching sessions on the following Thursdays:

30th January

6th February

13th February

Important dates for your diary, please attend if you can:

Friday 24th January 9:00am – Year 2 Assembly

Thursday 13th February 9:00am – Year 2 Mass

If you have any questions about Year 2 please arrange to speak to Mr. Hoskin after school.
