Reading/Literacy

A big well done to all the children who completed the reading comprehension quiz and the grammar and punctuation quiz from last week. I can access everyone’s results and everyone did an outstanding job. Keep up the hard work Year 1.

Children should feel free to continue their learning of grammar and punctuation using the ‘Smalltown Super Heroes’ game. If using the same device, this should save your child’s progress on the game and they can simply continue from where they left off.

W/C – 30.03.20

Monday – Hello Year 1, this week we will be using our adjectives (describing words) to describe a number of things including settings, characters and more. Remember we use adjectives to describe nouns, nouns are usually things you can touch but can include places, people, animals and objects.

Look at the picture below? Can you write a few sentences to describe the setting? An example might be “The forest is dark and scary.” Remember to use lots of adjectives 🙂

Feel free to send any pictures of your super sentences to me at year1@st-annes-pri.manchester.sch.uk

Dear Parents/carers,

The Oxford Owl website: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/ is a fantastic resource with free to access leveled reading books for all primary pupils. It requires an adult to register with an email and then children can simply log in to access the books and other learning resources so I urge you to register for this website.

The books can then be accessed on laptops, computers and tablets.

On the same website there are lots of interesting Maths games available:

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/kids-activities/fun-maths-games-and-activities/

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/kids-activities/times-table-activities/

These will help with children’s mathematical fluency and recall of number facts, number bonds and times tables.

Many thanks,

Mr Moynihan
